Guardian of the Veil Production Photographs

Guardian of the Veil was performed in 2007 at Matthew Barney's studio in Long Island City, New York and later that year at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, England. Related drawings and video were exhibited in 2007 at Regen Projects in Los Angeles.

The performance combines elements from the Cremaster Cycle (see the remains of the Chrysler Imperial from Cremaster 3 below) with Norman Mailer's novel Ancient Evenings . The story follows a protagonist travelling through the seven stages of death toward the eternal afterlife -- a voyage considered by Barney to be in opposition to the trajectory of The Cremaster Cycle.
